Helpful advice if you want to become the next YouTube sensation.

I’d like to take a moment to address a common conversational thread I’ve been running into lately. It has to do with YouTube sensation aspirees and YouTube video advertising.

Me:  What do you want to be when you grow up?
You:  I want to be a YouTube sensation!

And there you have it. One of the biggest dreams and aspirations of humankind today. Not just anyone can do it successfully. But you’re not just anyone. You’ve got a dream. Therefore,no one is going to stop you.

As with any major endeavor that fuels your passion I encourage you to make sure you do it the right way. A simple Google search will provide links with tons of tips to help you launch and flourish your DIY handyman channel, ballroom dancing channel, or cupcake cooking channel. Whatever tickles your fancy.

But then comes those tiny, little, pesky details….

The Reality

One thing I’ve noticed is people tend to get hasty – either putting forth little effort or quickly throwing content together without much thought about their audience. And that can lead to not only hiccups and headaches along the way but also a complete overhaul of the building blocks of your foundation. Basically starting your journey from the beginning – again – and treading water to reestablish your credibility.

I read a terrific article on this today by Movavi. The article highlighted the importance of protecting yourself from possible criticism, legal penalties, or other subsequent repercussions. It’s packed with helpful tips and guidelines that accentuate practical tricks of the trade for making your dreams come true. (Link to the article at the end of this post.)

YouTube video advertising the right way

But I want to focus on an aspect that can easily slip through the cracks of endeavorees. And if left undetected can leave you with little more than a pile of regret to show for.

I’m talking about using copyrighted music properly – in a way that won’t get you flagged. I couldn’t agree more with Movavi’s article that emphasized the importance of paying for the music you use in your videos. This doesn’t mean you have to sell your car to pay for music. Resources are accessible for exemplary music that can be licensed really freaking cheap. And it’s all legal and magnificent. Plus, the process isn’t all that complicated either.

Even using just a few seconds of copyrighted material may seem harmless. But YouTube is not about to put its reputation on the line infringing on someone else’s intellectual property (aka copyrighted music).

Using music without the owner’s permission on YouTube could trigger a copyright claim and “the almighty YouTube” has all authority to take your video offline if they see fit. They’re kind of like the copyright police and they take their job seriously.

A Solution

As I mentioned you can find tons of music resources that offer a wide variety of music to make your video eclipse your competitors. Therefore, I’ve made a list of the most reliable ones with YouTube clearance that offer the most value for your buck. Here they are in no particular order:

Pond5 – One of the forerunners and most widely recognized music libraries in the industry.
Music Vine – Not as much variety as Pond5 but much more affordable for YouTube projects.
PremiumBeat – Another forerunner in the game and relatively inexpensive.
OC Music CO – Features a wide array of World-class compositions and affordable for any sized project.
Epidemic Sound – Offers yearly subscriptions and unlimited downloads with an active membership.
SoundStripe – Versatile and affordable as long as your membership is active.

I’ll leave that right there for you. And I’ll leave the rest of the creating to you.

If you’d like to share a resource that YouTube creators might find both practical and valuable please share your kindness in the comments. Thank you!
